The Misericordia University women's basketball team defeated DeSales, 62–53, in its final game of the season, Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.
Morgan Janeski led the Cougars with 24 points while Chase Purdy added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Emily Romanowski also scored in double figures with 11 points.
After DeSales started the game with a 7–0 run, Misericordia's first points came by Romanowski with a putback and a free throw. Janeski scored the Cougars' next six points with a three-pointer from the left wing, a free throw and a jumper from the left elbow to put MU ahead, 9–8, with 3:14 left in the first quarter.
Purdy scored the final four points of the quarter on layups and Misericordia led 13–11 after 10 minutes.
Purdy hit a free throw to open the second quarter, followed by a three-pointer from the right corner by Marisa Captoni.
Janeski added a jumper from the free-throw line and a three-pointer from the left wing to give the Cougars a 22–18 lead with 7:20 remaining in the half.
The Bulldogs regained the lead, 25–22, before the Cougars responded with an 8–0 run.
Caitlin Landgraf got on the board with a jumper from the left block and Romanowski followed with a driving layup.
Lizzy Mitchell made a jumper off the glass from the free-throw line and Ava Cirigliano made a contested layup to reclaim a 30–25 lead with 2:57 remaining.
DeSales briefly took the lead again before Purdy hit a layup to send the Cougars into halftime with a 32–31 advantage.
MU came out strong in the second half with a 15–1 run.
Landgraf hit back-to-back layups followed by turnaround jumper in the paint by Janeski.
Romanowski made a driving layup to put MU up 40–31 with 7:49 left in the third quarter.
Janeski and Landgraf hit consecutive layups before a three-pointer from the right corner by Janeski pushed Misericordia ahead 47–32 with 5:37 remaining in the third.
DeSales scored the next six points before Misericordia closed the quarter on an 8–1 run.
Purdy made a free throw before back-to-back three-pointers from the right win by Janeski extended the Cougars lead to 54–38 with 1:39 left in the quarter.
Romanowski added a free throw before the quarter ended, and Misericordia led by 16 with 10 minutes to play.
Romanowski opened the fourth quarter with a layup and a free throw and Captoni and Purdy each made layups before the game ended.
