Steve Artzerounian had 22 points as the Misericordia University men's basketball clinched the top seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament with a 60-53 win over King's, Tuesday night at the Anderson Center.

Ethan Eichhorst added 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists as Misericordia extended its winning streak to nine straight to improve to 18-6 overall and 10-3 in the Freedom.

Artzerounian broke a 48-48 tie with a pair of free throws to put the Cougars ahead for good, 50-48, with 6:46 to play.

Sean Bieski's spinning layup made it 52-48 and Artzerounian took a nice pass from Joe Busaaca for a 54-48 lead with 5:36 to go.

After a pair of free throws by Tim O'Shea pulled King's within four, Busacca answered with a runner for a 56-50 lead with 4:32 to play and the MU defense held the Monarchs to just three points the rest of the way.

After Artzerounian's layup made it 58-51, Eichhorst found a driving Artzerounian for a lay-in and a 60-51 lead with 1:39 to go.

King's took an early 12-4 lead before a pair of Cael Evans layups got MU within 12-8 with 13:56 to play in the first half.

Chris Undersinger made a wide-open three-pointer to give the Cougars their first lead, 13-12, and the teams battled back-and-forth throughout the remainder of the half with King's taking a 28-27 lead at intermission.

King's went ahead 32-27 early in the second half, but Eichhorst scored four straight points and Undersinger's three-pointer from the corner tied it, 34-34, with 15:35 to play.

Misericordia will conclude the regular season at Manhattanville before hosting a Freedom semfinal, Wednedsay.
