Ethan Eichhorst led four players in double figures as the Misericordia University men's basketball team beat FDU-Florham, 76-73, to advance to the Freedom Conference Championship, Wednesday night at the Anderson Center.
Eichhorst had 23 points as the Cougars extended their winning streak to 11 while setting a new school record for wins at 20-6.
MU will host Wilkes in the Freedom title game, Saturday at 4:00.
Steve Artzerounian had 15 points for the Cougars while
Joe Busacca and
Matt Greene added 13 and 10, respectively.
Adam Katz led FDU-Florham with 22 points and Andrew Stress and Trevor Sykes had 12 points each. Mike Williamson added 10 points for the Devils who finished 13-13.
The Cougars rallied from a five-point deficit, 50-45, when Katz drained a deep three-pointer to beat the shot clock with 10:01 to play.
Eichhorst took a lob pass from Artzerounian and
Jeff Slanovec buried a three-pointer from in front of his own bench to tie it, 50-50, at 9:18.
Katz' driving layup gave the Devils their final lead, 52-50, with 9:00 to go.
Slanovec buried another three-pointer to put MU ahead for good and Greene hit back-to-back treys for a 59-52 advantage with 7:11 left.
Stress answered with a three-pointer, but Arzterounian's dunk made it 61-55 with 5:48 remaining.
Derek Hall hit two free throws to get FDU within four, but Greene responded with another three-pointer for a 64-57 lead at the 5:00 minute mark.
Will Green scored four straight points to cut the MU lead to 64-61 with just under three minutes to go, but Eichhorst made a short jumper in the lane for a 66-61 lead.
Joe Busacca converted a steal into a layup for a 68-61 MU lead with 1:37 left.
After Hall's layup made it 68-63, Busacca's driving layup put Misericordia ahead 70-63 with 1:05 to play.
Katz made a jumper to keep the Devils alive, but Busacca and Eichhorst both made two free throws for a 74-65 lead with under 30 seconds to play.
Williamson scored eight points in the final 16 seconds, including a three-pointer as time expired.
FDU took a 33-29 halftime lead thanks to 60% shooting from three-point range (6-10).
Katz hit a deep three-pointer to open the game and Stress and Trevor Sykes both added treys as the Devils took an early 12-4 lead.
The Cougars chipped away at the lead and Eichhorst's three-pointer from in front of the FDU bench got MU within two and Slanovec's three-pointer gave the Cougars their first lead, 18-17, with 8:35 left.
Katz and Sykes made back-to-back three-pointers for a 27-24 FDU lead and Katz' driving scoop shot made it 29-24 with 4:11 to go in the half.
Brandon Stone hit two free throws for the Cougars, but Katz responded with another driving bucket for a 31-26 FDU advantage.
After a Greene free throw, Stone's spinning layup made it 31-29, but Williamson's driving layup ended the first half scoring.
