The Misericordia University baseball team fell to Ithaca, 2-1, in the opening round of the New York Regional in the NCAA Tournament, Wednesday evening.
Gabe Noyalis went the distance allowing two runs on three hits and
Chris Tuttle went 1-3 with and an RBI.
Kenny Durling had two of MU's four hits while
Ryan Cacchioli had a hit and scored MU's lone run.
In the top of the second inning, Cacchioli singled and advanced to second on an error. Tuttle ripped a single up the middle of the field to plate Cacchioli to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Bombers had runners on second and third with one out, but Noyalis forced a fly-out to first and a groundball to third to escape the jam unharmed.
Ithaca plated two runs with a single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead.
Durling had a one-out single in the eighth and
Nate Hamlin reached on an error before Cacchioli was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.
Bubba Jasinski hit a ball hard right back at the pitcher who was able to field it cleanly and retire Jasinski at first to end the inning.
The Bombers had runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but once again Noyalis forced a pop out and a groundball to escape the inning unscathed.
Misericordia fell to 36-9 and will faceoff with SUNY-Cortland, Thursday at 3:30.
