The Misericordia University volleyball team swept Gwynedd-Mercy in their season opener, 3-0 (25-6, 25-15, 25-20), Friday evening in the Anderson Center.
Kellyn Swanson led the Cougars with eight kills and three aces and
Cailin McCullion added seven kills and three aces.
Meghan Stack had five kills and nine assists.
In the opener, MU took advantage of four consecuitve GMC errors as part of 14-0 run to break open a close game and take an 18-3 lead.
Cailin McCullion had three service aces during the spurt and Swanson had two kills.
After kills by Kat LaBrie and
Samantha Baro, Swanson's ace made it 22-4.
LaBrie and
Shelby Brochetti followed with a block and stack added a kill beore
Nicole Korgeski's ace ended the game.
Tied 10-10 in the second game, LaBrie had two aces and Stack added one to give MU a 20-11 advantage.
Swanson had back-to-back aces to make it 24-15 and Brochetti ended the game with a kill.
The Cougars raced out to an 8-0 lead in the finale thanks to a pair of kills from Swanson.
After GMC rallied to within 17-12, McCullion responded with two kills to stretch the lead to 20-13.
Carly Zaklukewicz added a kill and Brochetti ended the match with another kill.
Misericordia will travel to Immaculata, Wednesday.
