Seven different players scored goals and the game was never in question as the Misericordia University women's soccer team cruised to an 11-0 victory over Lycoming Wednesday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.
Sam Helmstetter,
Meghan Antrim,
Alyssa Manno and
Erin Baker each scored a pair of goals, while
Megan Lannigan,
Laura Roney, and Lindsay Usarewicz all added goals as well.
Helmstetter began the scoring for MU (6-0-1) in the 19
th minute, taking a ball from Roney to give the Cougars a lead they'd never relinquish.
The lead quickly grew to 4-0 as the Cougars scored three goals in the span of 80 seconds. Lannigan scored off a Helmstetter assist in the 25
th minute, and Helmstetter turned around and scored her second of the game. The goal was also the 30
th of Helmstetter's career, moving her into a tie for sixth place in school history with Carolyn Muller ('05). Roney then converted a penalty kick opportunity after being fouled in the box.
Antrim made the score 5-0 in the 31
st minute on a pass from Lannigan, while
Alyssa Manno closed the first half by scoring her first career goal on a ball from
Caitlyn Boyle.
Baker opened the second half scoring for MU, scoring goals in the 52
nd and 60
th minutes to increase the lead to 8-0. Antrim added her second goal of the game in the 65
th minute, and Usarewicz scored her first career goal in the 81
st minute to put the Cougars in double figures.
Manno netted her second goal of the game in the 87
th minute to close the scoring.
The Cougars outshot the Warriors 36-4 for the game and had a 9-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Maureen Ciccosanti stopped three shots in earning her fourth shutout of the season.
The Cougars will get a big test on Saturday when they travel to #3 Messiah.
