Sophomore
Megan Lannigan scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as the Misericordia University women's soccer team defeated Lebanon Valley, 3-1, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
Junior
Alyssa Mocion also scored for the Cougars (3-0), while seniors Sam Helmsetter,
Nicolette Hensel and
Laura Roney each added assists.
MU struck first in the 22
nd minute, as Lannigan took a feed from Roney and shook a defender to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead that they would maintain into halftime.
Amanda Douglas evened the score for Lebanon Valley (0-2) in the 59
th minute, scoring her first goal of the season on a pass from Nicole Snyder. However, Lannigan had the answer for the Cougars in the 69
th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick opportunity to put MU up 2-1.
Mocion gave the Cougars an insurance goal in the 84
th minute off another corner, with Helmsetter and Hensel contributing to the goal.
Freshman
Maureen Ciccosanti earned the victory in goal for the Cougars, making eight saves and withstanding a strong Lebanon Valley attack. The Dutchmen outshot the Cougars 25-19, while the Cougars held a decisive 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
MU will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Susquehanna for a non-conference match at 1:00 PM.
