Box Score The Misericordia University men's basketball team shot just 28 percent in the second half as the Cougars fell to Albright College 68-48 Wednesday night at the Bollman Center.
Matt Greene led the Cougars with 14 points and seven rebounds while
Justin Grotevant added 13.
Cael Evans came off the bench to add a game-high nine rebounds.
The Cougars got out to an early 3-2 lead on an
Anthony Sergio three-pointer, but the Lions responded as Zach Benjamin scored Albright's next seven points to give them a 9-5 lead.
A Greene three-pointer would close the gap to 9-8, but the Lions would go on a 10-0 run to lead 19-8 just over five minutes into the game. Back-to-back field goals by
Steve Ware and Greene cut the Cougar deficit to seven, but an Andre Marshall three at the 8:50 mark put Albright on top 24-14.
MU would answer with a 7-0 run of their own, capped by another Greene three-pointer to cut the lead to 24-21. A pair of Lions threes sandwiched a
Cael Evans layup to extend Albright's lead back to seven, but the Cougars would continue to battle, cutting the lead to 32-29 on a Grotevant layup in the closing seconds of the half.
Grotevant led the Cougars with 10 first half points while Benjamin and Dave Singleton each had seven for Albright.
Albright would score the first four points of the second half, but MU countered with layups by Sergio and Ware to cut the lead back to three at 36-33. From there, the Lions would go on a 24-7 run to take a 60-40 lead with 4:52 remaining, as the Cougars managed just one field goal during a seven minute stretch.
Albright would lead by as much as 22 before a pair of
Brandon Stone free throws in the final seconds brought the final margin to 20.
Pedro Perez led Albright with 16 points and seven rebounds while Benjamin and Singleton added 11 each.
After holding a 25-14 rebounding advantage in the first half, the Cougars were out-rebounded 34-17 in the second half, leading Albright to a 15-0 advantage in second-chance points during the period.
MU (6-6) will look to get back on track on Saturday when they travel to York for a 4:00 PM contest.
