MU Women Lose to King's

Box Score The Misericordia University women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 74-61 decision to King's, Wednesday night at the Anderson Center.

Lauren Smicherko led the Cougars with 21 points while Hannah Seely added 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Katlin Michaels had a game-high 28 points for King's, including 14 from the free throw line.

Trailing 34-22 at halftime, the Cougars charged back via an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to three less than five minutes into the second half.

McDaniel made a runner in the lane and Smicherko grabbed a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast for layup to make it 40-33.

Seely followed with a layup and Smicherko followed with two free throws to get within 40-37 with 15:05 remaining.

Down by six, 46-40, the Cougars scored four straight points on Hannah Seely's alley-oop from Sam Baro and Baro's pull up jumper with 11:02 to play.

Smicherko's turn-around jumper in the lane got the Cougars within 49-48 with 7:31 left, the Monarchs responded with a 9-0 spurt to take a 58-48 lead with 4:29 to go.

Sam Baro's 15-foot jumper from the left wing cut it to seven, 62-55, with 1:38 left, but the Monarchs iced the game with 12 free throws over the final 90 seconds.

MU jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead on two buckets by Smicherko sandwiched around Nikki Baro's eight-foot jumper.

King's used a 9-2 run to take an 11-8 lead with 12:11 to go in the first half.

Kayla Sileo's jumper kept MU within 17-14, but King's scored 12 straight points for a 29-14 lead with 5:23 to play.

Sam Baro started a 7-0 run with a back door cut off a feed from her sister and Kaitlin Kessler followed with a short jumper.

Seely added a free throw and Nikki Baro's bucket in the lane cut it to 3-22 with 37 seconds to play, but the Monarchs converted a pair of free throws in the final 10 seconds.

Misericordia, 9-8 (3-4), will travel to FDU-Florham, Saturday.
