Cougars Earn Big Road Win at FDU-Florham

Box Score Cael Evans and Matt Greene each poured in 19 points and the Misericordia University men's basketball team used two big runs to overcome a 10-point first-half deficit, earning a huge 71-57 road victory over FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon at the Ferguson Rec Center.
 
Evans also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to complete the double-double while Steve Ware added 18 points and nine rebounds.
 
Both teams traded baskets early on, and a Cael Evans layup with 15:21 remaining brought the Cougars within a point at 11-10. From there, the Devils went on an 11-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 22-12.
 
The Cougars remained unaffected, as Evans scored back-to-back baskets to cut the lead to six, and a Greene three pointer closed the gap back to two at 22-20 with 10:43 to play. FDU answered with a 9-2 run of their own to extend their lead back to 31-22, but the Cougars closed the half on a 15-3 run, as Patrick Widdoss came off the bench to score MU's last five points and give the Cougars a 37-34 halftime lead.
 
Matt Greene led the Cougars with 13 first-half points as the Cougars shot 47 percent in the first half.
 
Back-to-back three-pointers by Greene early in the second half extended MU's lead to 47-40 with 14:50 remaining,  but Trevor Sykes kept FDU-Florham in the game by scoring nine of the Devils first 12 points of the period to cut the Cougar lead to 51-46 with 10:54 remaining.
 
A Ware three-point play followed by another Ware layup sparked a 12-2 MU run that broke the game open, as the Cougars led by as much as 18 en route to the 14 point victory.
 
Greene added a game-high five assists to go with his 19 points and was 5-11 from three-point range. Sykes led the Devils with 19 points while Derek Hall and Will Green added 11 and 10, respectively.
 
The Cougars will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to local rival Wilkes for another Freedom Conference matchup at 8:00 PM.
