Cougars Edge Geneseo

Box Score Hannah Seely scored 14 points in just 18 minutes to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 64-60 win over SUNY-Geneseo, Friday night at the Anderson Center.

Lauren Smicherko added 14 points, four assists and four steals and Tyann McDaniel had 11 points as the Cougars improved to 6-4.

Kayla Sileo had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Seely missed most of the first half after picking up two quick fouls and returned to the bench with her third foul early in the second half.

When she was on the floor, Seely was 6-8 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds and had three steals.

The game was evenly played throughout with Geneseo taking its biggest lead of the night, 55-47, with 6:35 remaining.

Caitlin Kessler's drive off a nice feed from Robin O'Dell started a 6-0 run and Seely followed with a floater in the lane.

Nikki Baro sank a 12-foot jumper from her sister, Sam, to get MU within two, 55-53, with 4:04 to play.

After a Geneseo bucket, Seely made a reverse layup to keep the deficit at two.

Sam Baro made a jumper from the foul line to give MU a 59-58 lead and Seely drained a baseline jumper to make it 61-58 with 28 seconds left.

Geneseo made a pair of free throws with 16 seconds to play to get within a point, but Kessler and Smicherko combined for three free throws in the final seven seconds to secure the win.

Misericordia will return to Freedom Conference action when the host Eastern, Wednesday at 6:00.
