Box Score The Misericordia University men's basketball team was outscored 14-0 at the foul line as the Cougars fell to the York College Spartans, 73-55, on Saturday afternoon at the Charles Wolf Gymnasium.

Junior Anthony Sergio came off the bench to score 14 points on 4-5 three-point shooting to lead the Cougars while Matt Greene and Justin Grotevant each added 12 points.

It was MU, playing without three key players due to illness and injury, who jumped out to the early lead, as Jesse Urich and Sergio combined to hit a trio of early threes to help the Cougars to an early 13-8 lead. However, the Spartans would respond with a 9-0 run to regain the lead at 17-13.

After a Grotevant layup and another Sergio three gave MU the lead back at 18-17 with 10:36 remaining, York used a 21-6 run spanning nine minutes to break the game open before five straight points from Brandon Stone to close the half narrowed the gap to 40-29 at the break.

Sergio scored eight first half points to lead the Cougars while Stone added seven. Jeremy Skoloda led York with 14 at the break while Chad Styer came off the bench to score 11 points.

York scored the first six points out of the locker room to give them a 46-29 lead, but the Cougars battled back, as Sergio hit two more threes to spark a 10-0 run and cut the Spartan lead to just seven points.

A Mitch Kemp three extended York's lead back to 10, but a Greene layup narrowed the gap back to eight, and a pair of Grotevant layups on the Cougars' next two possessions kept MU within striking distance at 54-45.

After another Kemp three stretched York's lead back to 15 points, a pair of threes by Greene would bring the Cougars back within nine at 62-53 with 5:50 remaining. However, MU would draw no closer, as York went 6-6 from the line to close the game on an 11-2 run.

Skoloda led York with game highs of 19 points and nine rebounds while Julian Watson and Styer added 16 and 14, respectively.

MU (6-7) will look to snap its four-game skid on Wednesday when they host Eastern in Freedom Conference play at 8:00 PM.
