The Misericordia University volleyball team improved to 3-2 in the Freedom Conference with a 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-12) sweep of King's, Wednesday at the Anderson Center.
Kellyn Swanson led the Cougars with 10 kills and four blocks while
Kate Stuessy added seven kills and three blocks.
Shelby Brochetti had six kills and three blocks and
Lexi Giannone added four aces.
Nicole Korgeski and
Meghan Stack both had five kills for MU.
The teams battled back-and-forth in the opening set with neither squad leading by more than three points until the Cougars took a 21-17 lead.
With MU up, 17-16, Stuessy 's smash from the right side made 18-16 and Stack's kill put the Cougars ahead by three.
Swanson hit through a pair of blockers and following a King's ball handling error, Brochetti's smash from the left side made it 22-17.
Brochetti added a kill from the same spot and a King's attacking error put MU in front, 24-19.
The Monarchs answered with two kills before the Cougars closed out the set, 25-21.
King's took a 16-12 lead in the second set, but Brochetti and Swanson combined for three blocks to give MU a 20-19 lead.
The teams exchanged points before Giannone's ace put the Cougars ahead, 24-23.
After King's went ahead 25-24, Stack finished a kill down the right side to tie it and the Cougars went ahead 26-25 before Tagerty closed it out with a push in the middle of the King's defense.
The Cougars raced out to a 7-1 lead in the finale and Stuessy had three kills to make it 14-5.
Giannone had back-to-back aces for a 19-6 lead and Brochetti followed with two kills to make it 22-9.
Fortier's kill made it 24-11 and the match ended on a King's service error.
Misericordia, 11-13, 3-2 Freedom, will host Arcadia, Saturday.
