Ithaca Edges MU in Top-10 Battle

Box Score The Misericordia University women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision at Ithaca in a battle of top-10 teams, Wednesday afternoon.

Playing for third time in exactly one year, sixth-ranked Ithaca improved to 9-1 while ninth-ranked Misericordia dropped to 7-2-1.

Ithaca beat Misericordia 1-0 on the same date a year ago at Mangelsdorf Field while the Cougars advanced past the Bombers in penalty kicks in last year's NCAA Sweet 16.

Ithaca's Ellyn Grant-Keane scored the game's lone goal in the 11th minute and Beth Coppolecchia made seven saves to preserve the shutout.

Maureen Ciccosanti made four saves in goal for the Cougars.

Misericordia held a 13-11 advantage in shots, including a 7-4 edge in the second half.

Megan Mahoney led the Cougars with five shots, including three shots on goal.

MU will open Freedom Conference action when they host Delaware Valley for Homecoming Weekend, Saturday at 5:00.
