MU Volleyball Sweeps Del Val

Box Score The Misericordia University women's volleyball team returned to Freedom Conference action with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-21) win over Delaware Valley, Wednesday at the Anderson Center.

Shelby Brochetti led the Cougars with 14 kills and three blocks while Kellyn Swanson added nine kills and three blocks.

Kate Stuessy had seven kills and four blocks and Meghan Stack had seven kills and 12 digs.

Nicole Tagerty had 30 assists.

Misericordia rallied from big deficits in each of the first two sets to improve 8-9 overall and 2-1 in the Freedom.

MU trailed 17-11 in the first set and took their first lead at 23-22.

Three different tandems combined for three blocks as the Cougars pulled within 12-10. 

With the Aggies up 17-11, Brochetti had back-to-back kills and combined with Swanson for a block to make it 17-14.

Stuessy's dink got the Cougars within one and Stack's smash down the middle finally pulled MU even, 22-22.

Korgeski's ace gave Misericordia its first lead, 23-22, but Del Val rallied to go back in front, 24-23.

Another Stack dink tied it at 24-all and Swanson's kill in the back left corner made it 25-25.

Brochetti closed out the set with a pair of kills.

In the second set, the Cougars fell behind 8-1 before rallying.

Stuessy and Brochetti combined for three kills and two  blocks in a 7-0 run as the Cougars took a 15-14 lead.

Following a Del Val service error, Stack had a smash down the left side and Stuessy got a fortunate roll off the net to put MU ahead, 20-15.

A Tagerty push and another Stuessy kill combined with Swanson finding the back left corner again made it 23-18.

Brochetti hit through a block on the left side to make it 24-19, but the Aggies rallied to within 24-22 before ending the set on a service error.

Tagerty's ace and two Swanson kills gave the Cougars a 14-6 lead in the nightcap.

Stuessy had a block and a smash down the middle to make it 18-12 and Swanson ripped a shot down the left side put MU ahead 20-14.

Misericordia will play Widener and Elizabethtown in the MAC cross over challenge, Saturday at Wilkes.
