Box Score The Misericordia University men's basketball team mounted a charge in the second half but could not complete the comeback, falling to Manhattanville College, 73-63, on Saturday at the Anderson Center.

The loss drops Misericordia to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in Freedom Conference play while the win pushes the Valiants to 4-5 and 1-1.

The visitors shot better than 60 percent from the floor in the first half and carried a 42-27 lead into the break before the Cougars began to crawl back into the ballgame.

MU started to assert itself in the post in the second stanza as Cael Evans opened up the period with a bucket. Evans led Misericordia with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Still trailing by 15 with 13:54 to play, MU went on a 9-2 run that was capped off by a Matt Greene three-pointer to pull within eight at 50-42.

With 8:48 remaining in the game, Evans hit another layup that got the Cougars to within seven at 54-47 but two Colin Campbell free throws pushed it back to nine for the Valiants and MU never got any closer.

Campbell led all scorers with 27 points. He was 15-16 from the charity stripe and his day at the line helped seal the game down the stretch.

Matt Tanner provided a nice spark off the bench, hitting two threes for the day, including one with 6:00 left that made the score 60-51 before two more Campbell free throws swelled the lead back to double-figures.

Steve Ware joined Evans in double-figures for MU, scoring 12 points and adding nine rebounds. Erik Kerns provided eight points off the bench and Joe Busacca had seven points in the second half.

MU wil be back in action on Dec. 30 against McDaniel, at Lycoming.
