Box Score King's College used a 22-2 run spanning six and a half minutes in the first half to break the game open as the Misericordia University women's basketball team fell to the Lady Monarchs, 78-56, on Tuesday evening at Scandlon Gymnasium.

Hannah Seely led the Cougars with 19 points, nine rebounds and six steals while Tyann McDaniel added 10 points.

King's jumped out to a quick 7-0 run on a pair of Kaitlin Michaels field goals and a Celia Rader three-pointer, but the Cougars battled back, as Seely hit back-to-back layups to cut the deficit to three. After the teams traded baskets, a Lauren Smicherko jumper brought MU within two at 10-8 with 14:10 remaining.

From there, however, King's went on their big run to break the game open, and carried the momentum to take a 44-21 lead into halftime.

Freshman Tiffany O'Donnell came off the bench to score 13 first-half points for the Lady Monarchs while Michaels added eight points and 10 assists. Michaels scored or assisted on 27 of the Lady Monarchs' first 29 points.

MU played even with King's in the opening minutes of the second half, and a pair of Smicherko free throws cut the deficit to 46-25 with 17:47 remaining, but King's responded with an 11-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 57-25.

The Cougars would use a 13-4 run to cut the deficit to 21 on a McDaniel three-pointer and cut the score to 68-48 on a Kayla Sileo three with 6:26 to play, but the Cougars would draw no closer in the loss.

O'Donnell, who had scored just 28 points all season, led the Lady Monarchs with a game-high 22 points while Michaels added 16 points and 15 assists. Lindsay Atchison also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Jennifer Fabian just missed one with 13 points and nine rebounds.

MU shot 37 percent from the floor on the night but allowed King's to grab 15 offensive rebounds and take a 47-35 overall advantage on the boards.

The Cougars will conclude their season on Saturday, hosting Manhattanville at 1:00 PM. MU will honor seniors Tyann McDaniel and Kayla Sileo prior to the game.
