MU Hosting "Play 4 Kay" in Regular Season Finales

2/15/2013 3:02:00 PM

The Misericordia University men's and women's basketball teams will wrap up the regular season when they host Manhattanville for a doubleheader, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.

In conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) the teams will host a “Play for Kay” to raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in honor of former North Carolina State women's basketball coach Kay Yow, who lost her battle with the disease in 2009.

In addition, former Misericordia women's basketball player Tiffany Dickinson and Lucy Stanovick, mother of current Misericordia men's basketball player Nick Stanovick, both recently lost their battles with breast cancer.

On the court, seniors Tyann McDaniel and Kayla Sileo will play their final games for the MU women's squad.

The Cougars are 11-13 overall and 5-8 in the Freedom Conference.

McDaniel, a 1,000-point scorer and Misericordia's all-time leader in three-pointers, is averaging 9.6 points per game.

Sileo is averaging 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game as the first player of the bench.

The Misericordia men, 12-12 (8-5 Freedom) will tune for Wednesday's Freedom Conference semifinal as seniors Justin Grotevant and Sean Bieski make their probable last appearance in the Anderson Center.

Grotevant has set career scoring marks in each of his last two games and is averaging 10.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.  Bieski, a four-year letterman, adds 3.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

The Cougars will open the Freedom Championships at Delaware Valley or DeSales, Wednesday.
