Brittany Bressler were all double winners, and the Misericordia University women's tennis team used a trio of three-set singles victories to earn a huge 7-2 win over CSAC-Champion and NCAA-bound Marywood on Sunday afternoon at the Misericordia Tennis Complex.
Emily Boro,
Emily Hullings and
Brittany Bressler each gutted out important three-set victories for the Cougars. Boro rallied from a 2-6 first-set loss to edge the Pacers' Megan Nastelli 7-6 (7-4) in a second set tiebreaker before rolling to a 6-1 third set win at fourth singles.
Hullings won the first set 6-4 before falling 6-1 to Emily Hoskins in the second, but Hullings rallied for a 6-0 win in the deciding third set at fifth singles. Bressler also earned a come-from-behind victory, dropping the first set 7-5 before rolling 6-3, 6-1 in the final two at sixth singles.
Cameron teamed with
Cassie Foy for an 8-5 win over Carly Leitzel and Melissa Hudock at first doubles before rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 first singles-victory over Kara Hoff.
Phillips and Bressler partnered for an 8-3 third doubles win over Emily Hoskins and Meghan Faxon at third doubles, and Phillips rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at third singles.
Leitzel defeated Foy at second singles (6-0, 6-3) while Hoff and Nastelli beat the Cougars' duo of Hullings and Boro at second doubles (8-4).
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, hosting SUNY-Cortland in non-conference action at 4:00 PM.
