Eastern Beats MU at Buzzer

Box Score Misericordia's Sam Baro hit a game-tying three-pointer with six seconds left, but Eastern hit a three of its own at the buzzer to beat the Cougars, 70-67, on Wednesday night at Eastern.

The loss drops MU to 6-7 overall, but the Cougars are 2-1 in Freedom Conference play. The win moves the Eagles to 8-6 and 3-0 in the league.

Hannah Seely led the Cougars with a game-high 26 points. She also contributed 10 rebounds. Sam Baro had 11 while Katie Drayton and Justine Seely each had nine.

The Cougars trailed 51-42 with 12:38 remaining before mounting an 11-0 run to pull ahead, 53-51, with 9:57 to play.

MU got five points from Shannon Croasdale, two jumpers from Justine Seely and a bucket from Hannah Seely in the two and a half minute spurt.

Eastern countered with a mini-run of its own over the next six minutes to take a 62-56 lead with four minutes left before two Sam Baro free throws and two Hannah Seely layups tied the game at 62-62 with 2:51.

Over the next two minutes, Eastern opened up a four point lead at 66-62, but Justine Seely brought the Cougars within two with a jumper.

Eastern converted one of two free throws before Sam Baro's three with six seconds to play. It looked the game would head to overtime until Kaitlyn Dougherty hit the game-winner with no time left.

MU trailed by 11 with 45 seconds left in the first half but an old-fashioned three-point play by Hannah Seely and a jumper by Sam Baro trimmed the deficit to six at halftime, keeping the Cougars close.

Misericordia will play on the road Saturday at FDU-Florham.
