Box Score Joe Busacca scored a game-high 23 points, including the game-winner, to lead the Misericordia University men's basketball team to a thrilling 59-57 win at FDU-Florham.
Busacca's jumper with five seconds left broke a 57-57 tie and
Cael Evans grabbed a defensive rebound as time expired to clinch the win.
Matt Greene added 13 points and
Erik Kerns had a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Cougars overcame a 10-point deficit with 11 minutes remaining to improve to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the Freedom.
Back-to-back layups from Busacca and a free throw by Evans cut the deficit to 48-43, with 8:31 to go.
Busacca added a putback and converted a steal into a layup to get within 51-47 and sank two free throws to make it 52-49 with 6:34 left.
Another Busacca steal and layup pulled MU within 52-51 with 5:36 to play.
Steve Ware made two free throws with 2:47 left to tie it, 55-55 and Greene and
Griffin Sponaugle both added free throws to give the Cougars their first lead of the second half, 57-55.
The Devils tied with 37 seconds remaining to set the stage for Busacca's game-winner.
FDU-Florham had a chance to tie it with two free throws, but Evans grabbed the rebound on the second miss.
Busacca scored seven of Misericordia's first nine points as the Cougars took an early 11-4 lead.
MU led throughout most of the first half until the Devils charged back and closed the half on an 11-2 run to take a 30-24 halftime lead.
Misericordia will host DeSales, Wednesday.
