Box Score Steve Ware led five players in double figures as the Misericordia University men's basketball team beat Delaware Valley, 84-68, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.
Ware had a game-high 21 points as the Cougars won their fourth straight game to improve to 9-7 overall and into a four-way tie for first place in the Freedom Conference at 4-2.
Matt Greene connected on six three-pointers for 18 points and
Joe Busacca was perfect (8-8) from the foul line on the way to 13 points.
Griffin Sponaugle and
Cael Evans both added 11 points.
The Cougars opened a 50-31 halftime lead and never looked back as the Aggies never got closer than 14 points in the second half.
Ware's runner off a nice feed from
Anthony Sergio gave MU a 15-11 lead midway through the first half and Sergio followed by drilling a three-pointer from the right corner to make it 18-11.
Ware found Evans underneath for a 22-13 lead and Evans returned the favor on the next possession for a 24-14 advantage with just under nine minutes to go in the half.
Greene buried a deep three-pointer from the right wing and hit another from the other side a minute later for a 30-21 lead at 6:08.
Sponaugle drained a three-pointer from the right wing for a 33-23 advantage and Busacca connected from the left win for a 38-25 lead with 4:03 to go.
Greene hit another long three for a 41-25 lead and Sponaugle closed the half with a three-pointer to stretch the lead to 50-31.
Ware converted a three-point play to open the second half and the Cougars never looked back.
After Del Val cut the deficit to 65-51 with 7:58 remaining, MU used an 11-3 run over three minutes to stretch the lead back to 76-54. Greene sandwiched a pair of three-pointers around free throws by Busacca and Ware during the run.
Misericordia will host Lebanon Valley, Monday at 7:00.
