Box Score Joe Busacca hit the game-winning shot with two seconds remaining to give the Misericordia University men's basketball team its fifth straight win, 74-72, over Lebanon Valley Monday night at the Anderson Center.
Busacca had a team-high 27 points while Pat Widdoss and
Michael Brunson added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Cougars.
John Murphy had a team-high seven rebounds for MU.
Trailing by four with two minutes remaining, Busacca scored Misericordia's final seven points.
He buried a three-pointer from the left wing to pull MU within 71-70 and converted an up-an-under layup to tie the game for the 11th time, 72-72, with 1:06 to go.
After both teams missed potential go-ahead shots, the Cougars forced a turnover near mid-court to set up their final possession.
Out of a timeout, Busacca drove inside the three-point arc on the right wing and drained a pull-up jumper to give the Cougars the lead with 1.7 seconds to play.
The Dutchmen took the biggest lead of the first half when they scored the first five points of the game.
Misericordia battled back to tie it, 11-11, on Busacca's long jumper at 13:25.
Busacca buried an 18-footer to give the Cougars their first lead, 17-16, and
Anthony Sergio answered a Leb Val bucket with a pull up jumper for a 19-18 lead.
Griffin Sponaugle's baseline drive and three-point play made it 24-22 and he drained a three-pointer from the right corner on the next possession for a 27-24 advantage.
Brunson's long jumper near the top of the key gave the Cougars a 31-29 lead, Lebanon Valley ended the half the way they started it, with five straight points for a 34-31 halftime lead.
Widdoss and Brunson both converted three-point plays early in the second half to give MU a 37-36 lead.
Lebanon Valley's Kevin Agnew, who scored a game-high 30 points, connected on a three-pointer to give the Dutchmen their biggest lead of the night, 49-42, with 15:22 left.
Sponaugle and Sergio sandwiched three-pointers around a pair of free throws by
Tyler Bernath to pull even, 54-54, at the midway point of the half.
Brunson hit a deep three from the left wing, but Agnew answered with two long three-pointers to put LVC back in front, 60-57.
A three-pointer by Busacca tied it at 62 and Widdoss jumper in the lane put MU in front, 64-62, with 6:29 remaining.
After four straight points by LVC's Kyler Burke, Widdoss' layup pulled the Cougars to within 69-67 at 2:23.
The Dutchmen went up 71-67 on the next possession to set the stage for Busacca's heroics.
Misericordia, 10-7, will return to Freedom Conference action, Wednesday at King's.
