Sam Baro scored a career-high 26 points at King's

Cougars Fall in OT Despite Sam Baro's Heroics

Box Score Sam Baro scored a game-high 26 points, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer to force overtime, but the Misericordia University women's basketball team lost at King's, 76-75, Wednesday night in Wilkes-Barre.

Misericordia trailed by as many as 15 points early in the second half and was down 63-58 with a minute to play before Baro's heroics.

Baro drained a three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining and hit another with 16 seconds to play to get MU within 67-66.

After King's made a pair of free throws, Baro hit a step-back three-pointer from the left corner tie it, 69-69, at the buzzer.

Hannah Seely added 21 points and 11 rebounds while Justine Seely narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

Shannon Croasdale had seven points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars.

Misericordia shot just 29% from the floor in first half and trailed 33-21 at the break.

The Cougars shot 58.6% from the field in the second half, including 71.4% from three-point range, as they overcame a 40-25 deficit at 17:06.

Down 61-51 with 6:18 to go, the Cougars used five free throws in a 7-1 run over five minutes to pull within 62-58 to set the stage for Baro's three-point barrage.

The Cougars were limited to a Nikki Baro free throw over the first 4:45 minutes of overtime as King's built a 75-70 lead.

Croasdale hit a three-pointer to give MU hope and added a put back at the buzzer for the final margin.

The teams traded baskets throughout much of the first half before King's used a 9-1 spurt to take a 26-15 lead with 5:13 to play.

Baro and Hannah Seely combined for six points to cut the deficit to five points, but King's closed the half with seven unanswered points to take a 33-21 lead.

MU falls to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in the Freedom and will host first-place FDU-Florham, Saturday.
