MU Women Falter at Geneseo

Box Score After finishing 2013 at 5-5, the Misericordia University women's basketball team started off 2014 with an 88-55 loss on the road at SUNY Geneseo.

The Cougars scored the first bucket of the game on a layup by Justine Seely, but the Knights never trailed after that, going on a 14-6 run to take a 14-8 lead with 14:10 left in the half.

Hannah Seely pulled the Cougars to within four at 14-10 with 13:26 left but the Knights used a 9-1 run over the next five minutes to swell the lead to 23-11.

Geneseo continued to shoot well from the field at the end of the first half, scoring 19 more points in the final eight minutes compared to the Cougars' 11. Geneseo held a 42-22 lead at the break.

The second half was all Knights as Geneseo outscored MU 46-33 in the stanza.

Hannah Seely led Misericordia with 13 points in just 18 minutes of action. She was the only Cougar in double figures, while the Knights had five players hit the mark.

Sam and Nikki Baro each finished with eight points for MU, while Justine Seely added seven points and four rebounds.

The Cougars shot just 33 percent from the field but were able to force Geneseo into 16 turnovers.

The Cougars (5-6) are back in action Jan. 7 at Drew.
