Mahoney Leads #17 MU to 5-0 WIn over King's

Box Score The 17th-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over King's College in their Freedom Conference opener on Saturday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

Megan Mahoney led a dominant Cougars offensive attack with three goals while Jacqueline Stevens and Emily Szeflinski had one goal each. Alex Gallagher, Meghan Antrim, Erin McGreal and Alex Alchevsky had one assist each for the Cougars.

Mahoney's first goal of the game came just nine minutes into the game as she hammered a loose ball into the back of the net. She then added an insurance goal, making it 2-0 in the 30th minute on a rebond goal. Alex Gallagher had the initial shot for the Cougars.

Szeflinski then finished a cross from McGreal in the 41st minute give MU the 3-0 advantage right before halftime.

Mahoney picked up her third goal, finishing Antrims pass from the top of the box just 10 minutes into the second half. Stevens added the Cougars' fifth and final goal, finishing a cross from Alchevsky in the 61st minute.

MU dominated the game, earning a 38-5 advantage in shots and an 8-2 corner advantage.

Maureen Ciccosanti and Alyssa Pojero each played a half in net for the Cougars en route to the shutout victory. Jessica Natale had five saves in net for the Monarchs.

With the win the Cougars improve to 8-2 while King's fell to 3-4-2. MU returns to action Tuesday night at 7:00 against Stockton at Mangelsdorf Field.
