Box Score Nick vonEgypt had a hat trick to lead a second-half explosion as the Misericordia University men's soccer team defeated Marywood, 6-0, in the ECAC South Quarterfinals, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Chris Edkins had a goal and an assist and Trey Zeigler and
Sean Lynch added goals for the Cougars.
Dante Ippolito had a pair of assists.
After a scoreless first half, vonEgypt scored just 17 seconds into the second half when he chipped a ball over the Marywood keeper into an empty net for a 1-0 lead.
Edkins made it 2-0 just 19 seconds later when he finished a pass from
Niko Amity.
vonEgypt made it 3-0 when he finished a corner from Ippolito at 53:53.
Edkins flicked an Ippolito corner to vonEgypt who slotted a shot inside the right post for a 4-0 lead at 61:24.
Christian Tokle played a ball across the top of the box to Zeigler who slotted a ball back across the box inside the right post to stretch the lead to 5-0 at 69:18.
Lynch headed home a serve from
Tristan Snyder to close out the scoring with less than five minutes to play.
Edkins had the game's first scoring chance in the opening minute when he put a header off a corner on the frame, but it was cleared off the line by a Pacers defender.
Rob Wiacek had a rip from the top of the box that found the Pacers keeper at 3:45.
Daniel Hull had Marywood's best scoring chance when his shot from 10 yards out caromed off the right post at 20:07.
Barry Kabinoff's header off a corner nearly got the Cougars on the board at 39:13, but the Pacers defense again was able to make the clear.
Barry Fitzgerald made two saves in goal.
Misericordia improved to 13-5-2 and will face Widener in the semifinals, Saturday.
