Box Score The Misericordia University men's basketball team fought hard, but found themselves on the wrong end of a 67-64 decision against Richard Stockton in the championship game of the 2014 McCarthy Tire Laurel Line Tournament, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.

Joe Busacca led the Cougars with 17 points while Griffin Sponaugle followed with 11 points. Both Busacca and Sponaugle were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts. Steve Ware nearly finished with a double-double, posting nine points and seven boards. Erik Kerns added nine points and nine rebounds while Jesse Urich finished with seven points.

MU jumped out to a fast start for the second night in a row. James Hawk opened the game with back-to-back putbacks, Sponaugle caught fire from beyond the arc and Busacca added a layup and a jumper to give the Cougars a 21-14 lead midway through the half.

The Ospreys fought back, cutting the MU lead to 27-26 later in the first half. Urich answered for the Cougars with a three from the far corner and Sponaugle found Kerns for an easy layup after he went unguarded all the way up the middle of the floor. Ware then added a layup to extend the Cougars lead to seven, but the Ospreys got the final bucket of the half, cutting the MU lead to six at the half.

Sponaugle found Hawk early in the second half to give the Cougars their largest lead of the night at 41-33. The Osprey would tie the game just five minutes later. Cael Evans answered for the Cougars with a terrific tip in.

The game would be tied three more times before Richard Stockton took their first lead of the game, going on an 7-0 run to go up 60-53 with just under five minutes left. Urich hit a three from right in front of the MU bench to cut the Stockton lead to just 60-58 with just over three minutes left.

The Cougars would come as close as 65-64, but the Ospreys held on for the 67-64 victory.

Josh Blamon was the tournament MVP and finished with 27 points while Armin Cane added 20.

MU travels to Albright on Tuesday night to face the Lions at 7:00.
