Box Score The Misericordia University men's basketball team saw its winning streak snapped at six with a 70-60 loss to FDU-Florham, Saturday in the Anderson Center.
Steve Ware led the Cougars with 14 points and seven rebounds and
Cael Evans added 10 points.
Locked in a 58-58 tie with 5:38 to play, FDU-Florham closed the game on a 12-2 run.
Joe Busacca scored six of his nine points in a three-minute span to keep MU even, but the Cougars were held to one field goal over the last five minutes.
Misericordia led 35-28 at halftime and held a 54-52 lead after a driving layup from Busacca with 8:45 to play.
FDU-Florham opened the second half with a 12-4 run to take a 40-39 lead with 16:34 remaining.
The Cougars regained the lead on Evans' put back and
Anthony Sergio hit a three-pointer from the right corner to make it 44-40.
Matt Greene drained a three-pointer of a screen to give MU a 47-42 lead and Ware followed with a nifty spin move to the bucket for a 49-42 advantage at 13:37.
FDU eventually took a 56-54 lead with 6:49 to play, Busacca scored on a back door cut with a nice feed from
Erik Kerns to tie it.
Down by six, Busacca hit a pull up jumper to get within 64-60 with 2:59 to go, but the Cougars were held scoreless the rest of the way.
The teams traded baskets throughout the first half with FDU-Florham eventually taking a 17-13 lead with 11:33 to go.
Griffin Sponaugle hit a three-pointer from the left wing and Sergio put MU in front with two free throws.
Greene found Ware on the drive for a lay in to put the Cougars in front, 30-25, with 2:40 left.
Evans layup with under a minute left gave MU a 32-28 lead and Greene and Evans combined for three free throws in the final 30 seconds.
Misericordia, 11-8 (5-3), will host Wilkes, Wednesday at 8:05 in a game that will be televised by WNEP2.
