Box Score Matt Greene led four players in double figures with 18 points to lift the Misericordia University men's basketball team to a 79-74 win over Eastern, Wednesday night at the Anderson Center.
Joe Busacca had 15 points and
Steve Ware had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Erik Kerns added 12 points for the Cougars who improved to 13-9 overall and 7-4 in the Freedom Conference.
Greene was 6-11 from three-point range while Busacca was 10-10 from the foul line.
After Eastern rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to tie the score, 64-64, with 3:11 remaining, Busacca secured the win for the Cougars with eight free throws in the final three minutes.
Tied 66-66 with 2:40 to go, Kerns put the Cougars back in front with a driving layup and Busacca made it 70-66 with two free throws.
Greene buried a three-pointer from the right wing to stretch the lead to 73-66.
Busacca followed with two more free throws to cap a 9-0 run and a 75-66 lead.
Misericordia opened the game with eight unanswered points, but Eastern responded with a 9-0 run to take a 9-8 lead six minutes into the game.
Eastern eventually took a 24-17 lead with 7:26 remaining in the first half.
Cael Evans sandwiched a pair of layups around
Anthony Sergio's baseline jumper to pull MU within 24-23 with 5:29 to go.
Kerns put the Cougars back in front off a lob pass from Greene and the Cougars used the three-pointer to pull away before halftime.
Greene drilled a deep three-pointer from the right wing and Sponaugle followed with a trey from the right side for a 35-32 lead with 2:09 to go.
Sponaugle hit a three from the other side and Greene closed the half with a three-pointer from the top of the key.
Misericordia will visit Delaware Valley, Saturday.
