Cougars Drop 73-64 Heartbreaker in OT

Box Score The Misericordia University men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 73-64 overtime loss to DeSales in the Freedom Conference Championship game at Billera Hall in Center Valley, PA, Saturday afternoon.

Joe Busacca led the Cougars with 25 points and played all 45 minutes. Steve Ware finished with a double-double, racking up 11 points and 11 rebounds. Erik Kerns added 11 for the Cougars.

Mike Coleman led the Bulldogs with 28 points and six rebounds and was named Freedom Conference Tournament MVP. Paul Pammer finished with 17 points, while Cody Deal added 12 points for the Bulldogs.

The teams traded buckets for the majority of the first half, with the Cougars finishing the half with a Busacca three-point bucket and taking a 34-30 lead at halftime.

Matt Greene and Anthony Sergio hit long-range jumpers and Ware added a layup sparking a run and giving the Cougars a 50-41 lead with just over 13 minutes left.

Late in the second half Coleman drove the lane and converted a three-point play, giving the Bulldogs a 61-59 lead with 3:26 left in the game. Busacca answered back for the Cougars tying the game at 61-61 with 57 seconds left to play. Neither team could muster a bucket in the remaining seconds and the game headed to overtime.

Coleman led the Bulldogs to a 12-3 run in the overtime period, securing the DeSales win.
