Steve Sulcoski went to Texas with the dream of playing professional baseball in mind. After a successful Texas Winter League season, the former MU catcher signed a professional contract with the Rio Grande Valley White Wings of the United League in Texas.
Â
"Playing professionally has always been a dream of mine and after not getting drafted, I knew I still wanted to play," Sulcoski said. "I was definitely going to give it my best shot. Luckily the winter league was a great opportunity where I was able to showcase what I can do and it worked out."
Â
Sulcoski played his first three seasons at Shippensburg University before transferring to Misericordia for the 2013 season where he was a Second Team All-Freedom Conference selection at designated hitter. He tied
Kenny Durling for the team lead with 54 RBI.
Â
The former MU catcher said there are similarities between playing professional baseball and playing collegiately, but there will definitely be some major differences.
Â
"It's not too much different. After a week playing with a team you start to gel," Sulcoski said. "But, it's definitely going to be a big adjustment, because you're going to see a lot of great arms and it's also wood bat too, so you really have to be on your game."
Â
The roughly 90-game schedule begins in May and runs through August.
Â
"I can't thank the coaching staff and all of my former teammates enough for everything. I wouldn't be here without them.," Sulcoski said. "The plan is to see where it goes, give it my best and play as long as I can. Hopefully I move up and can continue to chase the dream."Â
