Box Score The Misericordia University women's volleyball team rallied for a 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20) win over Wilkes in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams, Wednesday night at the Anderson Center.
Meghan Stack led the Cougars with 16 kills and three aces while
Shelby Brochetti added 15 kills and two aces.
Nicole Tagerty had 41 assists and three blocks and
Kellyn Swanson had a team-high 12 digs.
MU extended its win streak to four straight while improving to 5-8.
After trailing throughout a back-and-forth first set, Brochetti's ace and a Wilkes error gave MU its first lead, 19-18.
Wilkes rallied to take a 23-21 lead, but Stack answered with a smash down the right side and an ace to tie it, 23-23.
The Colonels responded with a pair of kills for a 25-23 win.
Three straight Wilkes miscues gave the Cougars a 12-9 lead in the second set and
Lexi Giannone's ace put MU ahead, 15-12.
Tagerty and Burns combined for a pair of blocks and Stack smashed through a pair of blockers for a 23-16 lead.
Wilkes pulled within 24-20 before Brochetti put the set away with a kill from the left side just inside the back line.
Tied 4-4 in the third set, the Cougars rattled off seven consecutive points to take an 11-4 lead.
Brochetti had a push inside the back line and ripped a shot down the middle for a 19-12 lead.
Tagerty's push and back-to-back cross-court kills from Stack put MU up, 23-16.
Stack made it 24-18 with a well-placed shot from the left side and Burns and Tagerty ended the set with a block.
Brochetti put the Cougars ahead for good in the finale with a cross-court smash from the left side for a 13-12 lead.
Leading 21-19, Burns kill from the left made it 21-19 and Brochetti beat two blockers to make it 23-19.
Burns' kill down the right side put the Cougars ahead 24-20 and a Wilkes attack error ended the match.
Misericordia will travel to Rutgers-Camden for a tri-match with Wesley, Saturday.
