Box Score The Misericordia University men's soccer team dominated Juniata in the shot column and used a suffocating defense to capture a 1-0 victory at McGeehan Field on Tuesday evening.

Dante Ippolito had the Cougars' only goal while
Tim Ryan and
Derek Antonini were credited with the assists.
Barry Fitzgerald picked up the shutout in goal for the Cougars.

MU earned the 1-0 advantage in the 55
th minute when Ryan tossed a throw towards the net from the far side of the field, which was headed towards the side of the net by Antonini, allowing Ippolito to come flying in and head the ball in the top left corner of the goal.

Despite scoring just one goal, the Cougars had numerous chances in the first and second half. Ryan finished the game with three shots, one of which clanked off the crossbar late in the first half.

Niko Amity and
Barry Kabinoff also had scoring chances late in the second half, but the teams remained scoreless after the first half.

Nick vonEgypt nearly gave the Cougars a lead early in the first half as he went sliding towards the ball, but the keeper came out and made a sliding stop to keep the game scoreless early in the second half.

David Malaquias nearly missed a goal when he drilled a shot off the crossbar from outside the box with just 24 minutes left in the game.

The Cougars backs and Fitzgerald were terrific defensively, allowing just two shots on goal the entire game. Fitzgeralds' best save of the night came when the Eagles tried to surprise the Cougars with a quick pass off of a corner, but he made a leaping save to preserve MU's 1-0 victory.

MU returns to action on Saturday to open Freedom Conference play with a match against King's College on Saturday evening at 7:30 at Mangelsdorf Field.Â
