The top-ranked FDU-Florham women's basketball team broke open a close game late in the first half and remained undefeated with a 90-56 win over visiting Misericordia University, Saturday afternoon.
Justine Seely led the Cougars with 15 point while 12 different players scored for MU.
Misericordia led by as many as six points in the first half and held 26-24 with 7:59 remaining before FDU-Florham scored 13 straight points in less than two minutes to take a 37-26 lead.
Layups from
Nikki Baro and
Jaclyn Hajec got MU within 39-32 with 2:23 remaining, but FDU-Florham closed the half on a 9-2 run to take a 48-34 lead.
Seely opened the second half with a layup, but the Devils rattled off eight consecutive points to stretch the lead to 56-36.
The Cougars opened the game on a positive note as
Lauren Smicherko scored two early buckets to give MU a 6-2 lead less than two minutes into the contest.
Nikki Baro's jumper and a Seely layup off a steal by Smicherko made it 10-4 with 16:10 to go in the half.
FDU-Florham scored nine straight points to turn a 12-7 Misericordia lead into a 16-12 Devils' advantage with 12:55 remaining.
Sam Baro and
Shelby Brochetti combined for three free throws before Hajec drilled a three-pointer to put MU back in front, 18-16.
Seely's layup gave the Cougars the lead for the last time, 26-24.
Misericordia will host DeSales, Wednesday.
