Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Vogl Leads MU Field Hockey Past King's

Kailey Vogl had a goal and an assist to lead the Misericordia University field hockey team to a 3-1 win over King's in a key MAC Freedom contest, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

Lindsay Hischak and Colby Eldridge added goals and Suzhaunna Lerch had an assist.

Madysen Jones scored for King's.

Ang Pasquini had nine saves in goal for MU while Paige Tedik had seven saves for the Monarchs.

Vogl nearly gave MU the lead seven minutes into the game, but her rebound of her own shot went off the left post.

Six minutes later, the Cougars had back-to-back corners that resulted in a penalty stroke that Eldridge converted for a 1-0 lead.

Pasquini made a big save off a tipped shot by Jones off a free hit from outside the circle midway through the first half.

MU took a corner with 12 minutes remaining in the half with Eldridge playing to Lerch on the left flank who one-timed a pass to Vogl who tapped a shot inside the left post for a 2-0 lead.

Vogl and Hischak connected for an insurance goal just over a minute later.

Vogl raced down the left side before centering a pass to Hischak, who used a nifty spin move in front of the net to make it 3-0.

Both teams had dangerous scoring chances in the final minutes of the first half.

Hischak dribbled through the King's defense, but her pass was just out of reach of a streaking Vogl with 6:30 remaining.

Caitlin Wood's shot with less five minutes to go in the half hit the right post and the Monarchs' penalty stroke 15 seconds later was wide left.

King's got on the board early in the second half when Jones pounced on a loose ball that had bounced off Pasquini and punched the ball into the empty net.

MU's Sarah Gamble thwarted a King's chance when she cleared the ball from in front of her own cage with 28:00 to go.

Misericordia won its fourth straight game to improve to 6-9 overall and 3-2 in the MAC Freedom.  King's is 11-6 and 3-2.

MU travels to Delaware Valley, Saturday, while King's hosts Wilkes.
