St. Lawrence University used big second and third quarters to defeat the Misericordia University women's basketball team, 75-45, in their season opener at the Rose City Classic, Friday in Madison, NJ.
Justine Seely led the Cougars with a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Rachel Carmody had nine points in her collegiate debut and
Lena Williams added seven points.
St. Lawrence scored 14 points off turnovers in the first quarter and used a 10-0 run to build a 15-4 lead midway through the stanza.
Nikki Baro's jumper in the lane pulled MU within 15-9, but St. Lawrence led 24-16 after one period.
St. Lawrence out-scored MU 17-8 in the second quarter and led 41-24 at halftime.
A 15-6 third quarter gave St. Lawrence a 56-30 lead heading into the final period and the teams played evenly over the final 10 minutes.
MU will face Penn State Lehigh Valley, Saturday at noon.
