Box Score The Misericordia University women's basketball team's rally came up short in a 76-72 loss to Alvernia in their home opener, Wednesday night in the Anderson Center.

Liz Waleski led the Cougars with 18 points and Justine Seely added 17 and Jackie Hajec had 11.

Seely and Alexa Plitt had a team-high five rebounds and Lena Williams had six assists.

Down 70-60 with 3:10 to play, the Cougars went on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to pull with 74-72 with 35 seconds left.

Waleski ignited the run with back-to-back three-pointers and added two layups to get the Cougars within 74-70.

On the next possession, Waleski had a steal and found Hajec for a layup to make it 74-72.

Alvernia added a pair of free throws with 15 seconds to play.

Misericordia,1-2, will host Lycoming, Tuesday at 6:00.
