MU Hosting Wilkes in MAC Freedom Women's Soccer Semi

The Misericordia University women's soccer team begins its quest for a fourth consecutive MAC Freedom championship when the Cougars host Wilkes, Tuesday at 7:00 at Mangelsdorf Field.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.

MU enters the semifinal as the top seed after finishing the regular season 14-3-1 and 7-0 in the MAC Freedom, including a 1-0 win over Wilkes three weeks ago.

Wilkes is the fourth seed after finishing 3-3-1 in the MAC Freedom.

Second-seeded DeSales will host third-seeded King's in the other semifinal, Tuesday at 2:00.  Tuesday's winners will meet for the MAC Freedom title, Saturday at the highest remaining seed.

Alex Gallagher (11g, 9a) led Misericordia is points (31), goals and assists while Jackie Stevens (5g, 3a) added 13 points.

Kylen Smith (3g, 6a) and Ashley Edgell (4g, 4a) both had 12 points.

Rileigh Jo Evitts (5g, 1a) added 11 points.

Gallagher scored the game-winner during the regular season win over the Colonels.

Led by the goalkeeping tandem of Maureen Ciccosanti and Alyssa Pojero, the MU defense has allowed just 0.77 goals per game.

MU is making its seventh consecutive appearance in the MAC Freedom semifinals and has also appeared in four straight NCAA Division III tournaments, including a trip to the Final Four in 2012 and the Sweet 16 in 2013 and 2014.

Wilkes clinched a post-season berth with a 2-1 double-overtime win at Manhattanville in Saturday's regular season finale.

Wilkes' Micaela Oliverio (5g) and Nicolette Towlen (3g, 4a) tied for the team scoring lead with 10 points each.

Kate Mahoney has a 1.09 GAA with five shutouts.
