The Misericordia University women's basketball team dropped another tough decision, 73-62 in overtime to Lebanon Valley, Wednesday night in the Anderson Center.
Justine Seely had another big night for the Cougars with 18 points, 19 rebounds and seven blocked shots.Â
Japriya Carroll added14 points and
Liz Waleski had 13 for the Cougars.
The Cougars closed regulation on an 8-0 run and tied the score on a Seely bucket with seven seconds remaining to force overtime.
Down 57-49 with 6:48 remaining in regulation, Seely hit a short jumper in the lane to ignite MU's rally and the Cougars held LVC scoreless for the remainder of the quarter.
Seely hit a turnaround jumper to beat the shot clock and Waleski's driving scoop shot pulled the Cougars with 57-55 with 2:10 to set up Seely's game-tying bucket.
MU took a 60-57 lead to open the extra session, but LVC answered with 12 straight points to go up 69-60 with less than a minute to play.
Lebanon Valley led 38-32 at halftime and took its biggest lead of the game, 43-32, early in the third quarter.
Carroll drained a three-pointer from in front of her own bench and Seely drove the left side of the lane to cut the margin to 43-37 with 7:43 left in the third.
Lena Williams' driving layup and free throw made it 45-42 and Carroll buried a three from the right win off a nice look from Williams to cut it to 49-47 with 2:33 to go in the third.
MU took a quick 10-point lead as
Rachel Carmody and Carroll hit early three-pointers. Carroll took a deflected pass the length of the floor for a layup and
Leanne Forsyth hit a jumper in the lane for a 12-4 lead midway through the period.
Carmody found Waleski underneath to make it 14-4 midway through the period.
LVC got within in four minutes with less than a minute remaining, but Carroll nailed a three-pointer from the left wing to give the Cougars a 20-13 lead at the end of the stanza.
Lebanon Valley took its first lead, 23-22, on a three-pointer with 6:47 to go in the second period and eventually stretched the lead to 38-27 with a minute to go.
Waleski answered with a driving layup from the right wing and converted a driving layup form the left side into a three-point play to cut the deficit to 38-32 heading into halftime.
Misericordia, 3-5, visits Marywood, Sunday at 4:00.
