MU Hosting Delaware Valley in Freedom Championship

The Misericordia University men's basketball team will host Delaware Valley College in the Freedom Conference Championship, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Anderson Center.
The contest will mark the second time the two will meet in the post-season. Ticket prices are: Adults ($6), Seniors ($4), Students ($2) and children under six (free).

Misericordia, 20-6, is the top seed and returns to the Freedom Conference Championship for the second straight season. The Cougars are making their fourth appearance in the Freedom Conference Championship game and sixth consecutive trip to the Freedom Tournament. 

Delaware Valley, 16-10, is the second seed and is making its third appearance in the championship game in the last five seasons.

Misericordia is 12-2 in the Anderson Center this season, including a 72-63 overtime win over Delaware Valley three weeks ago.  The Cougars won both regular season meetings between the two teams with Joe Busacca hitting a last second three to give MU a 70-69 victory at Delaware Valley on January 28.

MU comes into the game leading the conference in blocked shots (114), assist/turnover ratio (1.08) and scoring defense (60.2). The Aggies lead the conference in rebounding, averaging 39 boards per game.

Misericordia is led by the seniors Joe Busacca and Steve Ware. Both Busacca and Ware are members of the 1,000 point club, and are in the top 10 in the Freedom, averaging 15.1 ppg and 14.8 ppg, respectively.

In addition to scoring, Busacca leads the team with 76 assists and 42 steals.

Ware is also in the top five in the league with 8.3 boards per game and second on the team in steals and blocked shots.

Griffin Sponaugle adds 8.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while first-year center James Hawk averages 7.1 points, 5 rebounds and leads the Freedom with 51 blocks.

Jamie Egan and Jesse Urich have split time in the starting line-up at shooting guard and both average nearly 5.0 ppg.

Erik Kerns adds 6.2 ppg and is second on the team with 5.8 rpg as the first man off the bench.

Francis Arnold is the Aggies leading scorer, averaging 15.3 ppg, while also collecting a team-high 50 steals on the defensive end.
 
Chris Moran adds 14.2 ppg and leads the conference in rebounding, averaging 8.8 rpg.

The winner of Saturday's game will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III NCAA Tournament.
