Colonels Top Cougars, 73-63

Box Score The Misericordia University women's basketball team dropped a tough, 73-63 decision Saturday afternoon at Freedom Conference foe, Wilkes University, 

Justine Seely led the Cougars with yet another double-double, posting 14 points and 15 rebounds while Jaclyn Hajec was the leading scorer with 15 points. Lauren Smicherko added 12 points while Shelby Brochetti finished with eight points in the loss. 

Wilkes controlled the tempo early, jumping out to a 10 point lead in the game's first 15 minutes. However, the Cougars came roaring back with a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to tie the game at 28-28 with just two minutes left in the first half. Smicherko started the run with a layup, Seely had two buckets, Hajec hit a long three and Brochetti capped the run with a three-point play. 

Smicherko and Seely each hit mid range jumpers and Brochetti knocked down two free throws to give MU a 32-30 lead at the half. 

The Cougars picked right back up in the second half, getting  two buckets from Seely and a runner from Hajec giving MU its largest lead of the game at 38-32 with 17 minutes left. 

Elena Stambone sparked a run for the Colonels and Wilkes never gave the lead back, outscoring the Cougars 41-25 over the final 17 minutes. 

With the loss the Cougars fall to 1-20 and 1-9 in the Freedom while the Colonels improve to 9-10 and 4-6 in the Freedom.

MU returns to action Wednesday night at 6:00 against Delaware Valley in the Anderson Center.
