Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kellish, Johnson, Lead MU to 6-3 Victory over Lycoming

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team picked up a hard fought, 6-3 victory over Lycoming College on Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Patrick Kellish led the Cougars' offense with two goals and an assist while Chris Fleming followed with two goals. Lane Kocovsky added one goal and two assists while Kyle Reese added a goal. Patrick Johnson racked up 13 saves in net and Patrick Newins caused four turnovers in the victory.

Fleming put the Cougars on the board with a bounce shot from the right wing that beat the Lycoming goalie just over three minutes into the game.

Lycoming had a great chance to even the game at 1-1, but Johnson denied the Warriors cross crease attack and immediately cleared the ball out to Trevor Bodnar.

Bodnar then sprinted the length of the field and found Kellish wide open on the left wing. Kellish sniped a shot into the top right corner, extending the Cougars' lead to 2-0 with 8:20 left in the opening quarter.

Garrett Huff cut the Cougars' lead to just one at 2-1 with a man-up goal with 13:43 left in the first half.

Later in the half, Lycoming's goalie came out of the crease to try and clear the ball, but Kocovsky followed him down the far sideline, eventually causing a turnover. Kellish picked up the ground ball and fired it up field to Fleming who ripped it into the open net for a man-up goal with less than 10 minutes in the first half.

Kocovsky added a goal of his own, taking a crisp Reynolds pass from the left wing and firing it into the top right corner of the net, giving the Cougars a 4-1 lead with seven minutes left in the first half.

Steve Troup cut the Cougars' lead to 4-2, finishing a feed from the far side of the field with less than 30 seconds left in the half.

Reese gave MU the momentum early in the second half with a man-up goal on a bounce shot from right in front of the net. Kocovsky was credited with the assist, following a feed from the right wing and the Cougars' lead increased to 5-2 with 12:15 left in the third quarter.

Steve Campanello answered for the Warriors when his shot took an awkward bounce over Johnson's left shoulder, making it a two-goal game at 5-3 with nine minutes left in the third.

Kellish added a big insurance goal for MU, sniping a shot from the top of the left wing into the right corner of the net, making it 6-3 with 9:30 left in the game.

With the win, MU improves to 3-3 and Lycoming falls to 0-7 on the season.

The Cougars return to action Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 against Rosemont at Mangelsdorf Field.
