MU Softball Wins Seventh Straight

The Misericordia University softball team extended its winning streak to seven with a pair of shutouts at Delaware Valley, Saturday.

The Cougars took the opener, 11-0 in five innings, and won the nightcap, 5-0, to improve to 13-8 overall and 7-1 in the Freedom Conference.

Melanie Quintanilla led the Cougars with three hits and three RBI in the opener while Kristi Seiler had two hits and drove in two runs.

Diana Kestenbaum added two hits.

Alissa Steier struck out five in three perfect innings to earn the win.

Megan Hardy had a three-run homer in the nightcap and Seiler drove in two runs.

Maddie Stebich worked four shutout innings in relief to pick up the win.

The Cougars used an 8-run first inning to take control of the opener.  Quintanilla singled with out and after Sam Hare reached on an error, both runners moved up on a wild pitch.

Seiler singled to left to put the Cougars on the board and Hardy made it 2-0 with a double to left center.  Melissa Parker and Kayla Stephani drew back-to-back walks to force in a run and Andi Veneziale's single to center made it 4-0.

The Cougars took advantage of two Aggie errors to make it 7-0 and Seiler closed out the scoring with her second RBI-single of the frame.

MU utilized four walks and hit batter to plate three runs in the top of the fourth.

Misericordia jumped out to an early lead with a two-out rally in the first inning of the nightcap.

Hare reached on an error and Seiler singled to center before Hardy cleared the bases with a three-run homer to right center.

Hardy drew a lead-off walk in the fifth and eventually scored on Lori Brennan's single to right center to put MU up, 4-0.

Whitney Ellenberg led off the sixth with an infield single and came around on Seiler's two-out single to center.

Misericordia will host FDU-Florham, Sunday at 1:00.
