The Misericordia University softball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a doubleheader sweep over Freedom Conference foe, FDU-Florham, Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field.

In the opener,
Andi Veneziale led the Cougars with two RBI while
Sam Hare drove in a run in the victory.
Alissa Steier was terrific in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout while striking out three to improve to 9-7 on the season.

Melissa Parker led MU with a two-run homer in the nightcap while
Maddie Stebich tossed a complete game to earn the win in the circle. She allowed just one run while striking out two to improve to 6-1 on the season.

In the first game, Hare put the Cougars on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double to center. Veneziale gave MU two big insurance runs with a double to the left-centerfield wall, extending the Cougars lead to 3-0.

Parker provided all the offense MU would need to secure a victory in game two with a two-run blast way over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth.

With the sweep, MU improves to 16-8 overall and 9-1 in the Freedom Conference. FDU-Florham falls to 6-14.

The Cougars return to action Monday afternoon for a doubleheader at Lycoming College.
