Softball Splits at Lycoming

The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader Monday afternoon at Lycoming.

The Cougars dropped the first game 5-4 and then came back and won the second game 8-0.

Bailee Schies tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit to earn her first victory of the year in the circle in game two.

Kristi Seiler led the MU offense with a grand slam in the sixth while Megan Hardy added a homer and an RBI double and Kayla Stephani roped a two-run single in the game two victory.

Melanie Quintanilla, Melissa Parker and Hardy drove in one run each in the loss in the opening game.

Maddie Stebich was hit with the loss in the circle in the first game. Alissa Steier got the start in game one, allowing four runs while striking out four in six innings.

Hardy's RBI double in the first gave MU all it would need in the victory in game two.

The Cougars' offense exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh, beginning with Stephani's double and ending with Seiler and Hardy crushing back-to-back homers.

In the opener, Quintanilla tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the third while Parker and Brennan gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead with RBI singles in the fifth.

Lycoming got one back in the sixth, but Hardy again made it a two-run game with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

However, the Warriors scored three runs in the home half to walk off with a 5-4 victory.

The Cougars return to action Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader with Freedom foe, Eastern University. First pitch is slated for 1:00 from Anderson Field.
