The Misericordia University baseball team jumped out to a quick lead and hung on for a 6-5 victory over the University of Scranton at PNC Field in Moosic, PA.

The Royals threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but
Chris Boroch made a diving stop on a ground ball up the middle and then fired to third to get the potential tying run caught in a rundown.
Brian Eshleman led the Cougars with a two-run homer while
Kyle Lindsay,
Steve Cuccio,
Jeremy DeCotiis and Boroch drove in one run each...
Al Reda,
D.J. Navoczynski and Boroch had three hits each.

Jake Kurtz picked up his first career victory, allowing two runs while striking out three over five innings of work.
Michael Turton picked up the save after getting out of the jam in the bottom of the ninth.

Cuccio started the Cougars scoring with an RBI single to right field while Eshleman capped the three-run second inning with a two-run homer into the walkway beyond the left field wall.

Boroch started the rally in the fourth with an RBI single to left field. Decotiis followed with a perfect sacrifice bunt, scoring Eshleman from third. Lindsay added the Cougars' final run with an RBI single to left field, extending MU's lead to 6-0 heading into the home half of the fourth.

Scranton started to chip away at the Cougars' lead with two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

The Royals added another in the ninth, but the Cougars got out of the jam and held on for the 6-5 victory.

With the win MU improves to 18-6 while Scranton falls to 14-12.

The Cougars return to action Friday afternoon at 3:30 at Tambur Field against Eastern University.
