The Misericordia University softball team got back on track with a doubleheader sweep over visiting Penn College on Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field.

The Cougars dominated the first game, winning 8-0 in five innings, then picked up a 4-3 victory on a walk off single by
Whitney Ellenberg in the bottom of the seventh of game two.

Melissa Parker led the Cougars to victory in game one with two home runs and four RBI while
Megan Hardy,
Melanie Quintanilla,
Sam Hare and Ellenberg drove in one run each.

Alissa Steier went the distance in the first game, allowing just four hits over five innings in the circle.

The Cougars overcame a sluggish start at the plate to eventually take a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Parker's first homer of the game.

MU then exploded for seven runs in the fifth to capture an 8-0 victory in five innings. Hare and Hardy started the rally with RBI doubles and Parker crushed a three-run homer to make it a 6-0 ballgame.

Ellenberg and Quintanilla then roped back-to-back RBI doubles to secure the 8-0 victory in game one.

Diana Kestenbaum led MU to victory in game two with a two-run blast while
Kristi Seiler and Ellenberg drove in one run each.

Maddie Stebich earned the win in relief for the Cougars, allowing two runs on two hits.
Bailee Schies went the first four innings, allowing one unearned run while striking out one.

Penn College jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on a Sam Hill RBI double to left-center.

Seiler tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth with a line drive single down the left field line, scoring Ellenberg from second.

Kestenbaum then gave the Cougars their first lead of the game at 3-1 with a two-run homer over the right field wall.

The Wildcats struck back with two runs in the top of the sixth, tying the game at 3-3.

Ellenberg then won the game for MU with a walk-off single to left-center.

With the sweep, MU improves to 19-11 overall. Penn College falls to 7-21.

The Cougars return to action Tuesday afternoon at Muhlenberg.
