The Misericordia University softball team used a powerful offense and solid pitching to sweep Keystone College in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Field.

The Cougars picked up a 10-4 victory in the opener and then won the finale 10-0 in five innings.
Â
Whitney Ellenberg led the Cougars with three hits and three RBI in the opener while
Melissa Parker crushed a two-run homer and
Diana Kestenbaum added two RBI.
Melanie Quintanilla,
Mackenzie Yurko and
Sam Hare drove in one run each in the victory.

Maddie Stebich earned the win with a complete game in the circle, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight.

The Cougars got out to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Parker drew a bases loaded walk.

Keystone struck back, taking a 3-1 lead into the home half of the second.
Â
Parker crushed a home run over the centerfield wall and Hare added an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth.

Kestenbaum roped a two-run double to left and Ellenberg sent an RBI single to left to extend the Cougars' lead to 6-3 after five. Keystone then added a run in the top of the sixth, making it a two-run game.

The MU offense exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Yurko started the rally with an RBI single while Ellenberg crushed a two-run double to left field and Quintanilla added an RBI single right back up the middle.

Andi Veneziale led MU to victory with a grand slam in game two while Ellenberg and Quintanilla both homered. Yurko drove in two runs and Parker drew a bases loaded walk.

Jordan Hoffman earned victory with a complete game shutout in the circle, striking out two and allowing just four hits.

The Cougars did the majority of their damage in the first, scoring seven runs to take an early 7-0 lead. Parker and Yurko started the rally with RBI walks and Veneziale cleared the bases with a grand slam. Quintanilla added an RBI single to cap the MU scoring in the first.

Ellenberg and Quintanilla roped back-to-back home runs in the third to extend the Cougars' lead to 9-0 after three.

Yurko drove in the 10
th and final run with an RBI ground ball to the right side, scoring Hardy from third.

With the sweep MU improves to 23-11 while Keystone fell to 10-18 on the season.

The Cougars return to action Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader at Manhattanville at 1:00.
