MU Softball Splits Regular Season Finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University softball team ended the regular season with a split at Manhattanville.

The Cougars won the opener, 14-2, in five innings and dropped the nightcap, 13-5, in five innings.

Whitney Ellenberg drove in five runs on two homers in the opener and Meg Hardy had three hits, including a homer, and three RBI.

Kristi Seiler had two hits and two RBI and Sam Hare added two hits.

Alissa Steier struck out six and allowed just two hits over four shutout innings to earn the win in the opener.

Melanie Quintanilla had two hits in the nightcap and Seiler drove in three runs.  Andi Veneziale added a solo homer.

The Cougars went ahead 2-0 in the top of the third in the opener and put the game away with 12 runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Ellenberg led off the third with a solo homer to centerfield and Sam Hare singled and eventually scored on a throwing error.

Veneziale drew a lead-off walk in the fourth, moved to second on Diana Kestenbaum's single and came around on Ellenberg's three-run homer to center.

Quintanilla walked and Hardy hit a two-out, two-run homer to right center.

Seiler's two-run single highlights a seven-run fifth inning rally.

In the nightcap, the Cougars scored twice in the top of the first.  Ellenberg walked Quintanilla reached on a fielder's choice and both runners scored on Seiler's two-run double to left.

Manhattanville answered with three runs in the bottom of the first.

The Cougars tied it on Veneziale's solo homer to lead off the second, but the Valiants responded with three more in their half.

Manhattanville plated three more in the third and closed the game out with four runs in the fifth.

MU, 24-12 (10-4), will compete in the Freedom Championships at King's next weekend.
